What is MOAA Joint Term Life Insurance coverage and how does it work?
With MOAA’s Joint Term Life Insurance, you and your spouse are both insured for the same benefit amount, it just means it pays the benefit you select on whoever dies first, you or your spouse.
Your family’s joint term insurance ends at that point. Of course, remaining family members can continue their MOAA Life coverage under MOAA’s Leader Group Term Life Insurance policy after the death of you or your spouse. The remaining spouse just needs to notify the Plan Administrator of this change within 31 days.
Plus, this program includes an important feature that doubles your benefits if you and your spouse die within 31 days of each other. For example, if you have $100,000 coverage, your beneficiary collects $200,000 ($100,000 for each life).
Protection for your family even if you’re on active duty or in the reserves.
Unlike many plans on the market, MOAA made sure this Joint Term Life Insurance coverage does not have exclusions for war or flying in a military aircraft. You’re covered no matter what … 24 hours a day … active duty, retired or in the reserves. As a matter of fact, the only exclusion is suicide within the first two years of coverage or increase in coverage.
Benefit amounts of $10,000 to $350,000 available.
The age of the older spouse determines the maximum amount available to you and your spouse.
| Age | Maximum benefit available |
|---|---|
| Under Age 55 | $350,000 |
| 55-59 | $200,000 |
| 60-64 | $150,000 |
| 65-69 | $75,000 |
